Ein Avdat canyon

1 - The Ein Avdat canyon (23 Kb) 2 - Ibexes are not afraid of humans (43 Kb) The Tzin stream cut a deep canyon in Avdat Heights, which are situated between central and northern Negev mountains, north of Avdat. The Ein Maarif spring is in the upper, southern part of the canyon; The Ein Mor spring is in the lower part, and the Ein Avdat waterfall is in the middle.

This canyon is 45000 years old, and its yellowish-white walls and cliffs are tens of meters high. Now a small stream runs on the canyon floor, between green shrubs. The scenery is unique and beatiful.

We started the Ein Avdat trail at the northen entrance to the canyon. The trail lead us along the stream to the Ein Avdat waterfall. The water flows there year round (but the fall is not so impressive during the hotter months). We climbed the stairs to get to the top of the fall, which is 15 meters high, and continued to the upper part of the canyon. There, one has to climb the ladders in order to exit to the southern parking lot.

Wild ibexes in the canyon are not afraid of humans, so you can take pictures of them.

There are many mountains (and breathtaking views) near Ein Avdat, and ibexes are abundant.
