Beeri in the Spring

1 - Wheat field with sulfur mines (31 Kb) 2 - This spring turtle was lucky not to be run over while crossing the road in Beeri (23 Kb) The settlement of Beeri, south of Gaza, is a place in the Negev which is very attractive in March. People come here to enjoy blooming flowers and trees.

Beeri has some historical sites too: a monument to the ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps), commemorating ANZAC soldiers who fought in the area during World War I, trenches remaining from the War of Independence (1948), first kibbutz buildings.

There is a wheat field covered by sulfur mines, and an abandoned sulphur factory. During World War I, a British soldier found commercial quantities of sulphur here, and started mining after the war. 3 - The monument to ANZAC soldiers (18 Kb)
